playing with the best player of the century
Many of this current generation never saw him playing in a game and it’s hard to believe in what you don’t see and even when you watch his videos you maybe doubt how good really he was and it is easy to make comparisons but to match his accomplishments, that’s another story.

The heavens cried on Cosmos Country as the King said farewell to the Beautiful Game more than forty years ago on October 1, 1977. A crowd of 75,646 at Giants Stadium, together with a global television audience estimated at 500 million, gathered to watch Pelé play his last match as a professional footballer in a friendly between the only two clubs he had played for, Santos and the Cosmos.

Giants Stadium in New Jersey was packed to see the last game of the King of soccer and I was there. Pelé played first half for Cosmos and the second half for Santos because they were the only teams he ever played for and I had a feeling he didn’t want to score against Cosmos but he didn’t hesitate to hit a free kick bomb into Santos net. I was only 10 yards away from him (#7 in white) and how can I blame him? That’s his party and by the way he is the King of soccer…
When I used to bring my camera to practices to take pictures with him – Pelé would say – “Cam’on Batata, again with this camera”. Every player picked on me and made jokes about it until Pelé left and then everybody was asking me for the photos. Now it was my turn…
